For our annual New Year’s Eve post, we were planning to highlight a few of our customers and vendors and share some of the many wonderful New Year’s Eve happenings in New York City. But, with Omicron on the rise, we decided to follow the lead of our customers—many of whom are hitting pause on indoor dining and reverting to takeout—and instead ask everyone to be careful. Here are some ideas for celebrating from the comfort of your own home. Keep reading…

Stock up for indoor festivities with seasonally appropriate goodies from the gluten, dairy, soy, and GMO-free Starseed Bakery. Try their Handcrafted Snowflake Sugar Cookies, Gingerbread Guys and Gals, or their Focaccia Flatbread with Rosemary & Thyme. Not only do they have paleo, vegan, and sugar-free options, but they also offer curbside pick-up!

Hoping for entertainment? There’s nothing like a good, old-fashioned movie night with treats from Dry Goods Refillery, the “plastic-free grocers who give a fig.” Kick back and snuggle up with a bowl of rainbow drops, jolly beans, or dark chocolate-covered cherries. Viewing suggestions include the wacky and heartwarming comedy show Ted Lasso, the perennially hilarious Schitt’s Creek, the final season of Insecure, and the new holiday movie Single All The Way.

For dessert, we suggest indulging in some sweet vegan fare from Modern Love Brooklyn. Try the gluten-free Classic Sundae (made with cashew ice cream), the Mini Gingerbread Bundt Cake, or the Chocolate Chip Cookie Togo (described as “a really big cookie”). They’re currently closed for dine-in but you can order for pick-up or delivery via Grubhub and DoorDash.

Also, if you’re looking to start experimenting in the kitchen in 2022, we recommend buying a copy of the 64-page, full-color MLBK Community Cookzine.

Looking for something special for New Year’s Day brunch? Vegan eatery Champs Diner is offering pickup and delivery for their entire menu. Feast on cheesy, dairy-free Poutine Fries, Cauliflower Wings, Tater Tots with faux bacon, Benedict made with tofu cutlets, JUST EGG omelettes, and more. Enjoy!

Lastly, for those looking to move their bodies, Skinny Buddha offers a variety of Fitness & Fusion programs offering both meals and exercise—Buddha’s Detox, Camera Ready Buddha, and BYOB (Be Your Own Buddha)—that you can participate in from the privacy of your own home. They’re running a sale at the moment, so don’t wait!
