Your Guide to Ace-ing Thanksgiving

November 27, 2024

Hi there! We’re back with our annual recommendations for celebrating one of the most food-centric holidays in style. Check out what Ace customers Modern Love, Dirt Candy, and P.S. Kitchen have in store for New Yorkers this season. Plus, combat the whitewashing of this holiday by donating to organizations dedicated to supporting and elevating the voices and futures of Indigenous people.

Modern Love

Modern Love, a vegan Brooklyn fave, is completely booked for Thanksgiving Day. However, they will be serving their Thanksgiving specials today and Wednesday if you want to sneak in a quick visit before the holiday rush.

Their plant-based Thanksgiving menu includes Seitan Turki (housemade seitan Turki with herb stuffing and arugula salad) and gluten-free Smoked Oyster Mushrooms (with roasted Brussels and corn pudding). Sides include a traditional Green Bean Casserole (perfect for sharing), gluten-free Mashed Potatoes, gluten-free Roasted Brussels Sprouts, and more!

P.S. Kitchen

Celebrate Thanksgiving with a plant-based Thankful Plate at P.S. Kitchen, a vegan restaurant located in Manhattan’s theatre district. Enjoy Seitan Marsala or a Vegan Turkey Cutlet with Mushroom Gravy as your main dish. Choose between iconic sides, including Creamy Mashed Potatoes, Macaroni & Cheese, Roasted Brussels Sprouts, or Green Bean Casserole.

Dirt Candy

Dirt Candy

Dirt Candy, located in Chinatown, debuted their fall-themed, five-course tasting menu on October 10th. While they don’t have any openings on Thanksgiving day, they’re a great option for those looking for an elegant way to wind down after chaotic Turkey Day celebrations.

The five-course experience features a Pickled Cauliflower Salad, Portobello Mousse Croissant, Candy Cane Beet Dumplings, and Kentucky Fried Smoked Butternut Squash Ribs. For dessert, enjoy a Potato and Chocolate Ice Cream Surprise.

5 Indigenous Orgs to Give To On This Day of Thanks

Thanksgiving is the perfect day to honor the native people of this country—those whose land was stolen and colonized. In that vein, here are some organizations you can donate to:

1. Native American Rights Fund (NARF): Fighting for Native rights and tribal sovereignty

2. Native Wellness Institute: “Promoting the well-being of Native people through programs and trainings that embrace the teachings and traditions of our ancestors.”

3. Warrior Women Project: Recovering “the stories of warrior women who fought for Indigenous self-determination and cultural survival during the Red Power movement (1960s-1980s).”

4. American Indian College Fund: Supporting Native students as they access higher education

5. Women Empowering Women for Indigenous Nations (WEWIN): Supporting Indigenous women as they come together to share knowledge, support, and resources to progress professionally and personally

Happy Thanksgiving to one and all!
