If you’re a Brooklynite, a vegan, a pizza fan, or all of the above you’re probably aware of Screamer’s Pizzeria. Self-described as Brooklyn’s first all-vegan New York-style pizzeria and “the love child of Champs Diner in Brooklyn and Blackbird Pizzeria in Philly,” this joint is known for slinging delicious, non-dairy ‘za.
Screamer’s, which will celebrate its 3rd birthday on June 12th, has two locations: one in Greenpoint and one in Crown Heights. We’d say it doesn’t matter which spot you visit but each one actually boasts a different menu. We stopped by Screamer’s eatery on Franklin Ave. and were blown away by the extensive options!
Screamer’s simplest slice, the Cheese Pizza, is made with their NY-style dough, housemade red sauce, and mozzarella shreds from the vegan brand Violife Foods. For those who aren’t familiar, Violife is based in Thessalonica, Greece, offers a wide array of dairy-free cheesy goodness, and has been perfecting their recipes since the ‘90s. As Victoria from the U.S. says on Violife’s website, “This is what we’ve been waiting our entire lives for.”
Screamer’s offers more unusual slices, too: the Reuben (made with vegan cheese, spiced seitan, and sauerkraut), the Buffalo (think almond ricotta dollops and buffalo cauliflower), the Grandma Pie (topped with two brands of vegan cheese: Numu and Violife), and many more.
In addition to pizza, Screamer’s offers a few lighter options. The Kale Caesar, pictured above, is made with “fancy” kale and shiitake “anchovies,” and crowned with a sprinkling of almond parm. We love how colorful it is!
If you aren’t in the mood for pizza but find yourself craving something hearty, Screamer’s has a yummy Baked Ziti, as well as Garlic Knots (topped with almond parmesan), and a Calzone (made with vegan ricotta). There is also a whole subsection of their menu titled “Fried,” which includes Buffalo Fries and Seitan Wings, as well as other crispy delicacies.
Sandwich lovers may be enticed by Screamer’s Roasted Broc Sandwich, which is made with spiced seitan and roasted broccolini. This special creation is only available at their Crown Heights location, so Greenpoint residents may have to travel if they want to sample it. That being said, we have a feeling the trek will be worth it!
If you haven’t visited Screamer’s yet, we highly suggest stopping by. If you already love them and are looking to further declare your adoration, we suggest checking out their merch. And, of course, visiting their Brooklyn-based brethren: Champs Diner and Hartbreakers. Enjoy!
